National Domestic Violence Awareness
Billboards Press Releases for 2016

FOR RELEASE ON September 14, 2016

Dale Hemming, Founder Sioux Falls Feminists

Sioux Falls Feminists

Would like to announce its Billboard Campaign to Support the
National Domestic Violence Awareness Month of October

Over 5,500 women are injured every day by male partners!

That's one every 15 seconds!

Over 3 women are murdered every day by male partners!

Over 20 children die every day from domestic abuse!

Older people and men can also face considerable risk!

Mental abuse can be equally crippling!

Six static billboards will go up September 12th on West 12th Street. Six more will go up September 26th on Minnesota Ave. Three digital billboards will also start running September 12th on S Cliff Ave at 10th street and at 26th street, and on Minnesota Ave at 41st Street.

The campaign's objectives are to make the public aware of the ugly reality of domestic violence. It can get very extreme with over 5,500 women being physically injured every day by their male partners. That's one women being injured every 15 seconds. In the time it took to read this news release five more women have been beaten to the point of needing a doctor's care.

Sioux Falls Feminists believe we must not keep silent about domestic violence and must not keep it hidden. We must show how bad it really is so people can truly appreciate the problem. Many women are being injured to the point of needing hospitalization. Broken arms, legs, ribs and head injuries are common. Pretty pictures have not solved this problem. Keeping silent has not solved this problem. All these have done is protect the abusers!

The Sioux Falls Feminists website SiouxFallsFeminists.com lists 15 organizations where abused women (and men) and children can get help. It lists 10 organizations where people can help domestic abuse victims. It lists the warning signs of domestic abuse and violence, and lists what a good relationship should look like. It also provides verified statistics and over 40 documentaries on the subject.

And The National Press Release

For Immediate Release

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Wednesday, September 14, 2016) "Over 5,500 women are injured every day by male partners! That's one every 15 seconds!”

These words appear on static billboards that were erected on September 12th on West 12th Street in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Three digital billboards have also start running on September 12th on S. Cliff Avenue at 10th Street, at 26th Street, and on Minnesota Avenue at 41st Street. Plans have been made for six more billboards to go up on Monday, September 26th on Minnesota Avenue. The billboards have been sponsored to promote National Domestic Violence month in October.

The other billboard messages include:

  • Over 3 women are murdered every day by male partners!
  • Over 20 children die every day from domestic abuse!
  • Older people and men can also face considerable risk!

These billboards have been made possible with generous funding from the Sioux Falls Feminists, headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The campaign's objectives are to make the public aware of the ugly reality of domestic violence. “It can get very extreme with over 5,500 women being physically injured every day by their male partners,” said Dale Hemming, President of the Sioux Falls Freethinkers. “Statistically, this is one woman being injured every 15 seconds. In the time it took to read this press release, five more women have been beaten to the point of needing a doctor's care, and we feel that something should be done about this.”

According to Hemming, the Sioux Falls Feminists believes that people must not keep silent about domestic violence and must not keep it hidden. “We must show how bad it really is so people can truly appreciate the problem,” Hemming added. “Many women are being injured to the point of needing hospitalization. Broken arms, legs, ribs and head injuries are common. Pretty pictures have not solved this problem. Keeping silent has not solved this problem. We are concerned that the only thing that these measures have done is to protect the abusers.”

The Sioux Falls Feminists (www.siouxfallsfeminists.com) is a resource that lists 15 organizations where abused women (and men) and children can get help.
